Pollos del Norte have agreed to build a Poultry Farm on our Pignon site to service an area with no poultry farm within 40 miles.

They will provide sustainability, employment and eventual expansion into other areas of Central and Northern Haiti with no poultry

farms. The Poultry farm will provide a good source of egg and poultry protein and lower the cost of chicken in the entire region

They also agreed to let the employees assume ownership by reinvesting half their salaries back into acquisition of the farm.  Employee

ownership of business and agriculture via the Mondragon model of cooperative ownership is one of the cornerstone of all our

most affordable while also exceeding the hurricane resistant standards needed for a project in the Northern Caribbean,

Shepley has designed a home which can withstand category 3 (125 mph) hurricane winds. Although our first relocation

site in Pignon is directly in the center of the country in a valley surrounded by mountains, we still require those hurricane

resistant specifications for future sites that may not be so well protected during hurricane season

Empower Playgrounds - Electricity Generating Playground Equipment

Ben Markham.  Empower Playgrounds (EPI) Provo, Utah  www.empowerplaygrounds.org
Empower Playgrounds, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides renewable energy to villages in rural third world countries

through electricity-generating playground equipment and smart LED lanterns. We plan to utilize a " whirl" in the school yard to

provide much needed recreation as well as generate electricity to power portable lanterns the school children and community in

general can utilize. By utilizing these Merry-go-rounds known as ”whirls” we will provide the power needs for portable lanterns that

light evening activities at home.

“Enabling students to study and read at night is a life-changing development for families living in isolated areas without power,”

says Ben Markham.“Working to develop and install new whirls allows Empower to bring light to more villages in Africa and beyond"...

Using state-of-the-art electronic controllers, wind power generators, and speed-increasing gearboxes, the merry-go-round is designed to

convert a portion of the kinetic energy from children at play to usable electrical power. The electric power produced when children turn the

merry-go-round charges large batteries capable of storing about two days of play. Highly efficient LED lanterns with a 45 hour run life are

recharged about every two weeks. Smart recharging circuits ensure a lantern battery pack life of many years. The children learn energy

management while using the lanterns each day at school and at home
